How is Downton Abbey appealing to Americans? Elizabeth McGovern's character is barely there, has an irritating way of talking, and seems, from what little there is of her, to be a mishmash of stereotypes about the US.

*shrug* Good plot and good characters, and a pretty, gay servant boy? I mean, Americans can be pretty self-centered, but not everything has to be 100% about us, 100% of the time for us to pay attention to it.
