Are... you actually saying it's not unhealthily obsessive just because it wasn't considered as such in Victorian times? Because the 'something abusive is totes OK because old' argument is frequently soundly shot down on this comm.

My problem is with the people who gush over it like it's adorable while looking at it with modern eyes.

Was the part I was replying to, and it is slightly condescending to say that the people reading ACD (or classic literature in general) don't see the difference between how they acted/wrote/behaved then and how life is today and maybe possibly take that into account when reading something.

I don't mean every who likes it are idiots, I meant I'm disturbed by people who don't take the historical context into account and think it's a perfectly healthy relationship everyone should strive to have.
