Because Black/White contrast between good and evil is done a lot, especially in younger age stories, and not everybody grows into more nuanced preferences. Or realizes that could be a thing on their own.

And far too many of tvtropes "editors" are too young to understand anyway.

I get it's a wiki and all, and you can't make wiki's exclusive, but yeah. Tvtropes definitely suffers from quality control sometimes.

And I think the fanfiction category (except for tropes in which it obviously applies, ie Mary Sue/Gary Stu) should be taken out back and shot. Granted, I don't open or read it now, but it's a symptom of what's wrong.

I don't like the Mary Sue Tropes that much either because I see a lot of cherry picking. People reaching taking bits out of context and leaving important bits out to "prove" some character is a sue.

I went on an LJ 'Canon Sue" community and I swear it was like a fucking cherry orchard. It might have been a troll but one person made an entry about voldemort complaining that he was TOO EVIL and "ruined everyone's lives" and should not exist, Also people wouldn't speak his name in "reverence" (okay, if 'reverence' means being afraid your family was going to get murdered sure, then every mob boss must be a Sue as well)

So yeah...I'm wary of canon sue claims.
