In my book, that's exactly what celebrity (or fictional) crushes are for: safely exploring the slightly unusual fantasies in the back of your mind. You know, the kind of stuff you wouldn't talk about with your partner unless you trust each other unconditionally. Or at all. That's fine too.

I had the same issue until middle school or so, then an eye-rolling "oh damn you youngin's" teacher set me right. It helped that the remake of Lollipop Bald Detective had Ving Rhames.

I get the daunting thing, totally. My advice: Pick one superhero, let's say Batman, start from 1986 (that was DC's big reboot) and start reading. Let the crossovers and other shit naturally guide you to other superheroes and team comics, like Justice League International or Green Lantern. That's more or less how I got into comics -- I'd intended to just read Batman so I followed this really comprehensive chronology, and as the list led me through the crossovers and the various comics Batman appeared in such as Justice League International I started getting into other comics as well.

Also, anyone want to take bets on if he'll ever compete in figure skating again? He was very good when he was at the top of his game, but idk idk. The figure skating world has kind of moved on while he's been off the ice. I don't know if he really would be able to compete with the rest of the field right now.

It had its moments. Especially the deceptacon snark. I personally felt Cybertron was the best in that trilogy though. I never knew redneck Thundercracker was missing from my life til I watched that even if it took me a good hour of screaming, "ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!?!" at the screen to see it.

Familiarity. Either what is normally done in fiction, or with the world they grew up in. If they and most of the people they know are white, chances are they just default to it. Same reason Japanese people don't need to be convinced that anime characters are Japanese--it's just what they assume.
