...No, I don't get it. Do you mean showing teeth?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean, and it bugs me too.

Most big budged 3d animation seems to have the same "look" to it. I'd like to see some more interesting art direction for once, like this ---

Damn. The animation's a bit jerky, but when Disney kept going on and on about Tangled/Rapunzel having a oil painting look to it, this is what I expected.

Are you talking about thin lips with no cupid's bow? :\a

It looks really cute to me...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I assume OP is talking very thin upper lip, buck teeth, and thin lower lip that usually denotes young or youthful characters.

Not really sure what to say about that, OP. It's a style you don't like. So? It's not a lazy or bad style, it's not something that is immediately indicative of an artist's poor taste, it's just something you don't like.

It's like the Dreamworks Smirk with teeth and cross studio ability.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Eh...Pixar does the Dreamworks smirk just as often. That comic was funny the first time, but people actually use it to make some sort of point. Half their examples don't even count!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the exact opposite. I have buck teeth, so this appeals to me. It's nice to see it represented in media in a positive way.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
To me it looks like a slit in bread dough. that moves.

[personal profile] silverr 2013-02-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
... That is eerily evocative, anon.

(although slits in bread dough to me look more like sock-monkey mouth once the dough rises again.)

starved looking, no lips and no indent above the lips?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO AGREES WITH ME.

I don't even know why it irritates me, there's just something unnatural about that particular design that weirds me out.

Yeah. It looks like a cut sliced into a rubber ball. Creepy.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, I couldn't ever place it, but it bothers me too! They look like they're about to inhale bugs!

It's like they all have overbites. http://cdn2.holytaco.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kate-middleton-photo-image-over-bite.jpg

I kinda like it actually?

Never paid that much attention to it, though.

It might be one of those uncanny valley things. Like the lips are too thin and the mouth doesn't really make the shapes it should when talking.

I don't think anything in 3D animation bugged me more than Rapunzel's eyes.

I didn't see it before, but now that you mention it...

I know people who do have mouths like that, and it's pretty cute IRL.

Now that I look at this, I agree. Not attractive or appealing at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
I feel bad about it, but I totally agree. The mom in The Incredibles had one, right? Ew, LOL!!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, OP. It's very 'twee' and I'm not down for that.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I hate that beak mouth that shows up on every adult male humanoid Hanna-Barbera character. Yes, I know they draw them that way because they're easily animated.
