You'll likely be back when/if you've been committed for so long that it's the feeling of falling in love rather than being in love you want to experience through characters. (This assumption being far from foolproof of course; I was already in a relationship when I got into fandom so I don't know how it would have worked for me.)

I once spent several hours in an Academic Work on Yaoi k-hole, and one of the most interesting things to come out of it was the idea that women write Yaoi to experience the transitive moments in relationships. I guess it's obvious, but I'd never realised how much of my romance reading was just a series of scenes of change (anything from living arrangements to new sexual positions). When my relationship is a constant, I start reading fic for exactly the reasons you've said!
