man, i agree. 'cool story bro' is the new version of 'tl;dr', something that doesn't need to be said for any reason other than in an attempt to be offensive. obviously if a person couldn't be bothered... they wouldn't be. the very point of reacting with disapproval is to upset the person in question. at least normal trolling tends to be entertaining.

Ugh I hate tl;dr.

Especially when it's in a debate or counterargument, and I actually bother to back up my points while my opposition keeps on saying cop out things like "but it should be obvious" or "anybody with a brain can see" . I actually bother to back up my points and they just go "but it was "too looooooong"

Makes me smile to see sensible people having an amicable chat. Some faith in humanity and conversation has been restored.

I may stand alone on this, but I really believe that the "too looooooong" garbage is heavily sponsored by micro-second updating blogs becoming the primary blogging medium. If your primary blogging is limited to 150 characters or just an image and pressing a "like" or heart button is considered responding, and refreshing the page after five minutes brings thirty updates, the attention span is going to eventually adapt to that.

Facebook, twitter, and Tumblr definitely do have their uses and it's great that they're around, but I see them kinda like Segway People Movers- invented for (and used by) people who really need them, but they also get used by people who just don't feel like making the strenuous walk all the way to the mailbox.

I've been wondering, are you by chance the Harp on CS?

I usually go by Harpsiccord or HarpFish since plain old "Harp" is usually too short or unavailable. But I'm blanking on what CS is, so no, probably not. What's CS stand for, though; maybe I registered something and forgot about it.

+1

I agree. I often encounter this phenomenon: (A few) people, so it seems, don't want to read longish comments and entries, they just prefer to have the basic statement represented in a little more than 120 characters.
