Criminal Minds is EXACTLY the type of show I would always look up spoilers before I watched an episode - if I actually dared watch it.

Glad to know CM scared the shit out of someone else. (Sorry, OP, I'm not bashing it, I'm sure it's a good show if you're into that kind of thing, but everyone else seems totally unaffected by it.)

DA
I watched a marathon on TV a few months ago because it looked interesting and really disturbed afterwards. I wouldn't voluntarily watch it again. YANA.

I have actually vomited from something I saw on the screen once (the woman who kept Ryan Cortland's corpse in her basement). That's the only time it's happened.

CM gets too intense and depressing to me to watch every week too. :( It gives me the shivers.

I fail to see how Zugzwang was offensive, can someone help me understand?

Spoilers, obv

Introduce female character for no other narrative purpose than the storyline of a male char (like, LITERALLY, she didn't exist until this season, they are never on screen together, etc)!

Then kill her off! For, again, more or less no purpose than more angst for a char they've already put through the wringer enough times by season 3 that it starts to feel exploitative and repetitive! And seriously, NO PURPOSE, because she literally has no function on the show than to have been introduced at the beginning of this season and killed now.

MMV, blah blah blah. I was willing to give the show some slack for previous fridgy storylines because for me there was enough separate agency and interest and development that I could say it was a natural outflow of storymaking decisions.

This one, uh uh. For me, this show ended with the season 7 finale, I am not talking to it anymore.

I haven't watched that ep yet, but from this description, it seems especially eyeroll-worthy when you consider it in conjunction with the season 7 finale. The writers had the perfect opportunity to kill off Will, but nope.

(I'm probably one of two people who actually likes Will, but he could have died then, just sayin.)

As someone else already mentioned, it was offensive because they introduced a minor female character specifically for the purpose of killing her to increase the main male character's angst (i.e., worst example of fridging I've seen in a LONG time.)

I would've stopped watching this show several seasons back if I wasn't being paid to review it.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
wait reid got a girlfriend? what

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
But he doesn't really want one, does he now? Or he wouldn't claim to love her without ever meeting her. He's probably a rapist or a pedophile on the inside, desperate to have a legitimate attachment with a woman as a cover.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
what

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
tl;dr: Gubler is projecting onto the character like an Imax, is completely unaware that he's a failbot, and does probably have a very, very, dirty illegal secret life hidden behind all that forced innocence.

that episode was seriously depressing. at first I didn't get if she was dead or not and I kept looking it up like...wait, so she DIED? seriously?! I hate the episodes that knock out a team member's loved one.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's... I mean, I hate to be a negative nancy, or anything, but I'm more worried about the general decline in quality of Criminal Minds (which I think that kind of thing generally is an example of). And in a way, that makes me less offended by the actual content of the thing - it becomes kind of easy, in a way, to write it off as one example of the general decline in quality, if that makes sense.

Like, "Well, yeah, that was dumb and kind of offensive, but what do you expect? The show is kind of shitty now".

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I blame Gubler. He thinks he's some sort of deep ~artiste~, but he's full of shit and worse than Lena Dumham. Can't act for shit, can't direct for shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
He's not a bad actor. Not mind-blowing, but not bad. And I think the attitude of Gubler (and I suspect probably some of the other actors as well) also created a decent portion of what made Criminal Minds a good / distinctive show. But the fire's gone out of the thing at this point.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
And he has a very punchable face.

Haha, I love you, Gubler-hating anon. I have an irrational dislike of the guy. It's "irrational" because I can't even pinpoint what it is about him that bugs me to no end.

I agree. I use to love the show, but somewhere around season 5 or so I noticed a marked drop off in the quality of the show overall. It was about the time that Bernero left and Messer and Fisher took over.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's turned into the "Sensitive Reid is a sensitive woobie" show, it sucks, and Goobler is really getting on my nerves with his fake-nerd, fake-genius, fake-good guy schtick. Even his hipsterism is fake.
