Pretty sure they're talking about Childings having said that around Christmas in an attack against some anon who offended Childings by having rich parents. The anon turned out to be here from the UK where classism and racism is very different to the US. They tweeted the thread and it blew up.

I must have missed that, but seriously what does that thread have to do with this thread?

AYRT No idea. Someone called her a racist and that's the only reason I can think of for them to do it.

I found a link to that thread a bit lover in this thread... And I even commented on it, not Childings post, but the full thread thing. And I had no idea it got that bad.

Yeah it got very ugly :( I think sometimes people forget that not everyone here is from the same country. I know I do even though I know for example that you're from Norway and Chard, Noodly, and Childings are from America. I'm still new here and am not around every day so I am not familiar with all of the accounts here, but I am at least intellectually aware that this is an international community. And still sometimes I forget to look at things from a perspective outside of my own country.

Sometimes people overreact.

Heck I forget that not everyone here is American and I am as you rightly said Norwegian...

But yeah a lot of discussions and misunderstandings here could have been avoided if people thought a bit more about the fact that not everyone on this community are from the same country.

Being poor is a shitty as hell in the United States and when you grew up that way it's really difficult to understand class politics in other countries. Also, when people POST ANON and I don't know who they are and can't look at their profiles to tell where they are from, and they don't leave any context clues to let me know that they are not from the United States, and post in English, it's kind of hard for me to figure that out

Being poor is shitty as hell everywhere. At least you're not a minority. America has more whites and women than any other race or gender.

The United States doesn't even have socialized medicine like the UK, people legitimately die here from things like rotten teeth because they don't have the money to seek treatment

Also why should I feel good about not being a minority, is there something wrong with that? Are you seriously upset that white people are in the minority somewhere? I live in a state where I'm projected to be a minority here in about a decade and I DON'T CARE

From the perspective of a white person in a country where most of the rich people aren't white, your assumption rankled badly and was only made worse when it turned out that OP wasn't white and from my country. You made a sweeping generalization about both white people and rich people that isn't true. It might be true in your country or maybe only in what you have witnessed but it isn't a universal truth. Globally, most rich people aren't white.

I'm confused? It seems like anon is trying to say that the wealth in the UK is concentrated among non-white people and is that really true? I know there are a lot of economically depressed areas (moreso than a lot of Americans actually, I can thank my love of British post-punk music for that) but that's a far cry from saying that most white people in the UK are poor

Also the cognitive dissonance here is amazing. I come from the most economically depressed area of the United States (aside from the Appalachians), I mean, the American South is pretty notorious for being full of poverty and full of people of all races and ethnicities living in poverty, so it's sort of the same thing as some of these cities in the UK like Manchester where jobs and social services dried up in the 80s under conservative policies. It's like... the exact fucking same thing

I highly doubt it is. But a lot of people are angry that immigrants come in (or their descendents) and get good jobs. They think it's overtaking native brits, basically.

I have to say that I don't think this is a credible source. I'm talking about social statistics, not a selective newspaper list.

I can't tell anything about a person who posts anon and doesn't give me any clues to let me know that they are not from the United States. Most people in this comm are from the US or Canada (which is different from the US but I don't think the majority of rich people there are not white... correct me if I am wrong) so it's a fair assumption to make when I can't pop over to a profile and see where someone is from

People on the internet freaking the fuck out because they think I'm a fucking Newtype and know everything about them when they make random statement whining about not getting money for Christmas (which is still really shitty and unacceptable, sorry)
