Oh Lord, I do sympathize with ya. I've had a similar experience with my main fandom, although in that case it was rather weird: I've watched the thing first then went to explore the novelization and then assumed that one of the characters in the film!canon had the same name as in the books... am still ashamed, tbh.

Ooh, I heard Murder Rooms mentioned once before, is it any good?

And that was like me when I watched/read Howl's Moving Castle, with the character of Markl/Michael. Of course a lot of things were changed with the adaptation so...I shouldn't have been surprised.
