It's probably a combination of your upbringing and the fact that there's a LOT of fiction where 'good Samaritan' characters do have ulterior motives.

Like, you know those kind of video games that early on, when you're trying to survive or something, some NPC show up to give you quests and tell you what you need to do? I inevitably believe they will die or betray me. I can't think of a situation where I've been wrong thus far.

/snerk - you sound like my boyfriend. I generally go into games and shows expecting nothing, so I don't make conscious assumptions about what's going to happen in the future or what a character's motives are. My boyfriend, however, will make all sorts of predictions based on what he knows about entertainment (which is rather a lot). 9 times out of 10, he's dead-on, especially when I don't want to believe him XD

FUCKING ATLAS щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

It has been years and I am still butthurt that that character ended up betraying the MC in Bioshock.

HA! Yes, that is exactly who I was thinking of! Friggin guy.

I just started playing Far Cry 3, and I'm really hoping I'm wrong about Dennis.

Mmm, I have fond memories of Mellisan.
