I do think that this entire mess is largely SJW. Actual living people are not freaking political correctness machines. They sometimes say things that poorly reflect their true opinion/word their thoughts badly/just say something that can be interpreted in different ways.

I usually try to be careful with my opinions about people I don't know IRL, but so far I respect Martin Freeman and consider him a nice person.

Exactly. Everyone says stupid things sometimes, or makes a joke that doesn't work and only comes across as offensive and insulting, and with normal people nobody cares, but with celebrities it gets repeated over and over again and everyone interprets this one (or two or three) stupid comment as proof that this celebrity is incredibly sexist/homophobic/racist etc.

This. You can't take out-of-context comments or things from dodgy sources and use them as proof that someone is racist or homophobic or sexist or whatever. If a celebrity actually is those things, of course I think they should be held accountable, but those aren't labels to be thrown around at the drop of a hat.

Martin Freeman strikes me as someone who sometimes doesn't think before he speaks, who doesn't always phrase things well, and who has a sense of humour that doesn't always translate into actually being funny, so he can come across as a bit insensitive. I think some of it is cultural too. That dog comment was very clearly a joke but I think that kind of very dry delivery can go over the heads of many Americans, and it was American SJWs I saw taking it as something serious and making a big deal about it being so racist.

Do you have many SJWs in your life? Because the ones in mine were genuinely, furiously upset about it. Jumping on perceived racism is serious business!
