My problem with first person is, unless it's a recount to another person, like an interview, or a journal or a memoir, I can't get over "WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO?! WHY ARE YOU NARRATING EVERYTHING IN YOUR HEAD?! Is this a thing you do? Man, you're weird." But that's just my personal hang up.

Haha, I have this problem too. :) It's especially pronounced in any sort of description in first person, because while I can accept well-defined description in third person, first person always leaves me going, "...do you really spend five sentences describing your long flowing hair in your head every time you encounter someone new? How much time do you seriously spend thinking about this?"

Nice details about world-building in third tend to feel like over-share in first, too. Not always, but usually.

Most of the first-person original fiction I've encountered state that the narrator is writing their account or telling it directly to the reader/their friend, but yeah, I see how it may be an issue :] Second person usually bugs me for this reason.

Conversely, I've found that it helps me if I start writing something in the first person, precisely because I'm trying to figure out what someone would say if they were to tell the story to someone in real life... I usually end up switching to third person because that's what I'm most comfortable writing, but when I want to start things up it helps me to give my narrator some motivation for telling the story.

That and: why are you explaining to yourself things that you already know? This bugs me to no end both in fanfiction and in published fiction. For example, I think The Hunger Games would've been much better in terms of writing if it was written in third person limited, because it allows for much more wiggle room when it comes to worldbuliding.
