That's my point exactly.

Usually the challenge is annual, starts late fall, and runs though late spring. (and it's 10-20 rounds of a different pairing each half-month) After season 8 they had a very short summer min-challenge (4 rounds only) which they called "8 3/4" which made sense.

But the reason they give for calling the current season 9 3/4 instead of 10 3/4 is that it's more like 8 3/4 format. Which still makes no sense. The fraction is fine, it's the integre that irks me.

This possibly is far-fetched, but could it be a mere typo then? Otherwise it would not make any sense at all. I'm sorry this spoils your enjoyment of participating.

Sadly it is not.

(A typo that we could all laugh over? Wouldn't have bugged me. A typo can be easily fixed. This is stupid because it's a forum topic. It's not as if they printed thousands of engraved invitations.)

(I suspect I'm just looking for excuses not to participate.)

Why in the world would they go from 9 3/4 to 10 3/4? 9 3/4 means something in HP fandom, 10 3/4 does not.

Skipping 10 and going straight to 11 wouldn't be so awful, though. But the fact that they put 10 before 9 3/4 is completely stupid.

.. and Season 1o has already concluded.

But yes ... if NEXT season is to be 11, then if the current season needed to be "fractionalised" it ought to have been 10 3/4.

It's just such an odd thing for them to have done, and such a stupid thing for me to have become rankled over.
