(Anonymous) 2013-02-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)But ahem, seriously though...yeah, that's just kind of one of the things you have to accept about storytelling. My theory is that there's a bunch of hypothetical fictional stories where the protagonists die awful ignominious deaths and fail to save the day, but authors don't bother writing those ones down because...well most of the time, what's the point?
It would be like putting tracks of flubbed recording sessions on your album instead of the successful recordings: totally pointless unless the flubbed recording session in question failed in such a meaningful and interesting way that the failure has great intrinsic worth all on its own (which is where Kill 'Em All stories have a place).
