Exactly.

Perspective is just a writing tool, like every other writing tool. You use the one that fits your story. If you use the wrong one or use it the wrong way, it's going to look off.

I can see how first person would be easier to misuse than the common third person limited, though, especially if you don't have a complete grip on the character.
