Such is the way gossip works. Always cherry picking the worst about people and blowing it out of proportion, because it's simply more self-righteous fun to level long distance scorn upon someone than it is to sit back and say, "Yeah, they're decent people." The tabloids thrive off of this phenomenon.

It is, however, part of the reason why I avoid the RPF/celebrity stalking end of fandom like the plague. Because yuck.
