And then there are some so-called fans who make it their mission to abuse the "who made you the gawd of fandom" argument to shut down complaints about their own badly-written fic featuring contrived ships that deliberately misinterpret and bash characters to break up canon couples (ex. MCU - Stony shippers bashing Pepper Potts to break up Tony/Pepper) or at least totally malign potential UST shipping candidates (ex. Stargate Atlantis - Sheppard/Teyla shippers making Elizabeth Weir and/or Rodney McKay look like evil fiends to justify putting Sheppard and Teyla together) that even long-time members of these fandoms are leaving because it's become so damn toxic.

In circumstances like that, it's no wonder why the canonists and gen fans think that the OOC/AU-shippers are bat-shit crazy and just want them to get the frak out of fandom forever.
