Tbh, I'm pretty new to the fandom too, so I don't have much to recommend. I'm also not entirely sure what you like, so I'll try to give a variety.

Synopsis: More than two sweeps after being returned to a restored Alternia, the trolls face impending adulthood and banishment from the planet. Gamzee Makara fully expects to be culled on conscription for poor health and sopor addiction - what he doesn't count on is the personal attention and protection of the Grand Highblood.

It's technically an AU where, in a a doomed timeline, the trolls basically bust out of the game shortly before Cascade. It's probably my fav fic so far. There is Gamzee<3Tavros and Gamzee<>Karkat, but they're not the main focus if that's not your thing. (I gave you the link to the AO3, but the fic updates more regularly on the kink meme--you'll find the link in the first chapter.)

The Finer Details of Gay Cluckbeast (http://archiveofourown.org/works/244127/chapters/376384) by clumsyoctopus (John/Dave)

It's basically a post-game fic of John and Dave slowly falling in love with each other and it's basically wonderful.

All of it is wonderful, but I recommend "i will buy the flower shop, and you will never be lonely." and "Rise and Shine" especially. Also a ton of others, but I don't want to list basically every fic.

My tastes are mostly slash, sorry, and I'm not too familiar with a lot of the great fic. I can give you more if you ask, but it'll be closer to PWP.

Don't worry, I like slash too! And being in a new fandom is overwhelming, especially one as big as Homestuck. The first fic looks really epic, just what I wanted to read! And the second one is really cool looking too, I've been meaning to read a John/Dave fic, this looks perfect.
