(Anonymous) 2013-02-03 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)Google Stan "The Man" Musial. He was one of the best baseball players of the mid-20th century and one of the nicest men ever. No, seriously, he died a couple of weeks ago, and even then, absolutely no one said anything bad about him. All of the good things he did, big and small, would fill several books. What's related to your comment is that he was overlooked for years on a national scale because he never played for the Yankees or Dodgers and he was so completely nice (though St. Louis Cardinals fans adored and still adore him); once he died, though, there was suddenly this outpouring of sentiment about how darn good and kind he was because, as you said, things are coming full circle.
Sorry for that random tangent. I just wanted to provide an example of a real-life altruistic (famous) person because they're real, but rare.
