I haven't played it, so I can't be sure, but something about the art style reminds me of Yume Nikki. (Apparently, it has a character with that name, so it's as good a guess as any.)

It's Yume Nikki, a PC game made with RPG Maker 3000. It's free online and there's a translation available, so you should give it a try if you like exploring surreal places over something with a concrete plot.

Agreed- both depressing but somehow intriguing. Considering Madotsuki's isolation, her story fits pretty well with Nanako's upbringing. Sadly, that would mean Doujima's character development was for naught as far as the whole "I'll move on and re-devote myself to my family."

Unless...

On the job tragedy leaves Nanako orphaned? God, that's way too depressing.
