I can't be the only person who's thinking of Jeff's Sock Gap from Coupling. There's a more general point, though, and that's one of detail. If you're describing something in a lot of detail, it's very noticeable when you miss something out. At best your readers will wonder why, and at worst they'll think that what you didn't mention didn't happen at all because otherwise you'd have said so. In this case, if you're describing every individual item of clothing being shed being mentioned as it happens, if they don't take their shoes and socks off in the text then your readers could well be left with the impression that they've kept them on. Conversely, if you just put "they got undressed" then their minds will fill in the blanks.
