Honestly, in my house during winter, this is exactly what happens. It's a bit like playing Twister. A bunch of people in heavy coats stand around in the doorway trying not to knock each other over while they strain not to step off the mat while each person tries to remove their boots as quickly as they can (which is rarely quick, given boots are often laced) and then hop away far enough from the door as they try to avoid stepping in any of the snow that they've just tracked in.

But you know, it's just one of life's awkward things and you do it anyways. :) I'd be way more annoyed if I had to walk through trails of water in my kitchen.
