I, for one, would be intimidated to try. The writers of BB are awesome and I'm so absorbed in seeing what actually happens, I can't with the fanfic yet. The reality is still too intense. Maybe once the show is over?

I'd like to say it's because they're already perf just the way they are. But, maybe I'm wrong, aren't characters who are pretty well-developed in canon not conducive for shippy fic? Idk. That's my line of thought for why I would rather ship and look for work of minor or secondary characters like Gus/Pollo Bro and Gale/Whatsisface Throat Slashed Guy.

It's probably too intimidating to write BB fic. Also, there's already a canon gay couple in Gus/Max. I'd rather see lots of fic for them.

It's implied in the flashback and more heavily implied when APD finds the photo of them together, and VG actually did say in an interview I should really have bookmarked that they were intended as a couple.

Ah, well. I knew it was implied, but I never know if my slash goggles are on too tight or not.

I never heard about that interview. I heard in another one where when asked about it he said he wouldn't take a stand on it either way and preferred to let viewers form their own conclusions (which I thought was cool).

Funnily enough, I was linked the first on fandomsecrets in a thread where I was pissed off about the second. There is definitely one interview where he confirms it, however.

I JUST finished watching this series for the first time yesterday.

And I am perfectly ok with it not having a big fandom because what little fandom I have seen makes me want to burn it to the ground. (LOOKING @ U, SKYLER H8TERS AND WALT APOLOGISTS!)

Oh hay, I'm glad you ended up giving it another shot (I was one of the folks encouraging you on ONTD, although I've since deleted that journal). I KNEW you'd wind up loving Skyler.

It took me until season 3 to really love it as a show and I still kind of can't really full out adore it because OMG. I HATE WALTER WHITE SO MUUUUUCH. I mean, we're meant to hate him, but still. Walter raises my blood pressure so fucking much that it's hard to fully enjoy the show sometimes.

But omg. Queen Skyler. I LOVE HER SO MUUUUUUCH. And Marie too! And Jesse just breaks my heart.

Walt is literally the worst, so I understand your concerns. Even my 70 year old father, who was an enormous Walt apologist for the first 4 seasons, is finally like "wow no okay I can't, Team Skyler it is." (Hilariously, even other castmembers hate Walt. Have you ever seen Jonathan Banks talk about him? Amazing.)

Meanwhile, it's pretty obvious who my character of choice is, but I fucking love Skyler. I hope they have a celebratory make out session in front of Walt's jail cell while he slowly dies of cancer.

I don't have revenge fantasies about my own life, but omg. Since finishing Breaking Bad, I have had revenge fantasies about Skyler and Jesse teaming up to take Walt down. And then like Walt is there as Jesse finds out about all the horrible shit that Walt has done to him and Skyler and Jesse look at Walt with pure hate in their eyes and Walt dies alone and hated.

It cannot be healthy to hate a fictional character so much, but omg. Walt is so awful. I can't help it.

Oh no, this secret breaks my heart. "YES, Breaking Bad obsession! New fans! Wanting to produce stu-- oh Walt/Jesse slash :(" I'M SORRY, OP. I SUPPORT YOUR ENDEAVORS IN THEORY AND YOUR KINK IS OKAY but I think the reason more people aren't slashing it is that it's pretty close to incest. Also Walt is old and a terrible person, but that's my main reason at least.

If you write all the Gus/Max, though, I will read all the Gus/Max. In the meantime, there is a little fic at the LJ comm breakingbad_art.

Gus/Max is too tragic for me to get into, unfortunately, and we barely got to explore their relationship at all. But Gus/Mike or Gus/Jesse I'd be all about!

Gus centric stuff in general, really. ALL the Gus centric stuff. Gus, bb, I miss you. D:

Precious little of it, unfortunately. AO3 has a couple of very short pieces and I know I've read at least one Gus/Jesse story and a couple of Gus POV snippets in multi-character "5 Things" style pieces but those feel generally far less focused on Gus himself and more on having other character extol how wonderfully Jesse suffers.

Which, I mean. It's Jesse. His suffering is beautiful to see and I love his character to death and so I don't really mind anything that gives me good exploration of Jesse but dammit it would be really nice to get some good exploration of Gus for the sake of exploring Gus, not just using Gus as a medium to explore Jesse or Walt.

I too adore Jesse ~~and want to adopt him because he reminds me of my students, lol~~ but Gus is just so fascinating and has unexplored backstory.

Minor spoilers for S4 and S5 of BB.

I sorta ship it. I'm just torn on it because I can only picture it happening because Walt is trying to manipulate Jesse into staying and Jesse is desperate enough to go through with it and I really can't see any way for that to end without tears and bloodshed and horror.

(Not that that show is likely to end without tears and bloodshed and horror just as it is, but y'know.)

But I can definitely see the potential. Especially with scenes like that uncomfortable, forced dinner scene in S5 and the numerous ways that Jesse and Skyler have been cast as reflections of each other. I'd love to see that explored in fic but unfortunately most of the fic I've read for the pairing has a very sweet, happy tone to it which really does not jive with how I see that pairing happening.

Though my horse, my horse for a good, long, meaty gen fic. Esp. anything AU set during that bit where they're in Mexico and Jesse almost gets sold to the cartels because can you imagine how much Walt would FREAK THE FUCK OUT if Jesse actually somehow did get left down there? IT WOULD BE BRILLIANT.

But sadly asking for longfic of any stripe in BB fandom appears to be asking for too much, much less long gen fic.

There's also some really good stuff popping up on AO3 lately.

I love their relationship for exactly the reasons you said; Walt is so abusive and possessive, Jesse's so emotionally needy, they're so fucked up and yet there's this core of genuine (dark, sick, but real) love there. I'm not sure I'd say I ship it, but a dark kind of sexual dimension would feel like a natural extension of Walt's dual need to protect and to control Jesse.

FFFFFFF I hear you OP, the Walt/Jesse dynamic completely blindsided me when I finally got into the show and I am now way too ridiculously invested in their emotionally traumatizing train wreck of a relationship. It is so only going to end in tears D:

Hmm, there's some really really excellent slash out there and I'm not sure I'd trade the twenty or so gems for the crap that might accompany a more popular fandom. But there is a tragic lack of gen fic and stories involving the other characters. I agree with the posts above about Gus, more Mike would be good, heck I'd KILL for some Hank-centric fic, what with the cliffhanger that they left us on.

But then again I don't write and imagine it would be daunting to tackle source material like Breaking Bad. I'm definitely planning some fanart though :]

i think it's because the writing in the show is too tight for there to be much room for expansion.

though this doesn't stop me from being continually disappointed that there isn't an explosion of gus/max fic
