I've never been an extroverted person, and only in the past year or so have I really been gaining a decent amount of self-confidence. I was pretty awkward and shy and didn't care about my appearance, so I basically erased the possibility of dating during high school. I don't quite regret that; I think it was for the best, honestly, but I've always been interested in having a romantic relationship, even though no one's been apparently interested in me. Last year I moved to another country, started college and everything's been going great.

By the end of last year I even met this guy who I got along really well and I got this huge crush on him. But, long story short, he fell off the face of the earth. I haven't been able to get in touch with him and I fear I won't for a very long time or only if chance throws me a bone or something. I think it would have been great to at least keep in touch and chat and stuff, but that's not happening. Then, at the very end of last year I met this other guy completely at random. he invited me for coffee, we chatted, exchanged numbers and he is...so clearly interested.

And yet he is not...he's just not right for me. I'm not interested. I'd always wondered what it was like to have someone so taken by me, telling me that I'm beautiful and that he's happy to spend time with me, yet I didn't expect being the one who's not into it. It sucks because he is a good guy, and because I've never been kissed or had sex and I would like to but not if it means getting into a relationship that won't make me happy. He's a good friend and he's been really respectful and patient and I'm really grateful for that but the answer is still going to have to be no. At the end of the day I don't have close friends here and a relationship would have been nice, I think. I just feel disappointed in myself and in how things ended up playing out.

idk, maybe? I never did tell him I liked him or asked him on a date so I can't really be sure, but yeah, I've thought that may be it too.

This happens all the time, though--sometimes two people just don't click the way they want to. It's not a bad thing, it doesn't make you an awful failure of a person, and it certainly isn't your fault. These things just happen, and if you want a good relationship, you shouldn't think you have to settle for the first guy who comes along. It's okay not to be interested!

oh, I know, but it's hard to keep that in mind. Thanks for the reassurance.
