Funnily enough, I've been worrying for the last couple of years that I'm using my vague mental illness as an excuse for not having to deal with life. And yet it's so damn hard that I can't imagine just dealing with it. But I've had this vague mental illness for so long that I could so easily have just convinced myself that this is an acceptable way of going about life and REALLY I'm just lazy. But then I would say that because I'm depressed and hate myself.

I used to worry that I was just lazy too.

But I eventually a) learned how to manage my mental illness, to some extent, and b) got some freaking accommodations - and suddenly I was getting lots of work done, and ended up being fairly successful in what I was trying to do. Turned out I wasn't lazy at all, I just had a freaking debilitating mental illness!

I suspect it may be the same for you. Believe me, it can get better! Even if it takes a long time. Don't be too harsh on yourself (easier said than done, I know).
