Why would you be offended by collectible figurines

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh...collectible figurines in the nature of the Django ones are no different than posters, in my opinion. There just small sculptures.

But the Black Widow one is meant to be a kind of sex object. She's not that kind of character, but apparently Marvel is still cool producing stuff that reduces her to her body. Unless we get a Thor opening up his fly, it is pretty sexist and I can see offense.

You're right.

ngl. I'd pay good money for that kind of Thor.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! Add me to the list of potential purchasers.

The official art for the figurine, in case you were curious: http://youbentmywookie.com/wookie/gallery/0612_hot_toys_black_widow/Hot%20Toys%20-%20The%20Avengers%20-%20Black%20Widow%20Limited%20Edition%20Collectible%20Figurine_PR9.jpg

Yeah, she has that ridiculous cat suit. But she also comes with guns, a Chitauri weapon, throwing discs, and her hand taser things. I wouldn't say she's been reduced to a sex object just because she has boobs and is wearing the exact outfit she wore in the movie. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh. I assumed she had been posed permanently in stripper position.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we're not objecting to the fact that she has boobs.
We're objecting to the fact that she is opening her catsuits to reveal them instead of being in an actual fighting pose.

As mentioned above, the equivalent would be a Cap figure where he's sexily opening his fly and you see the top of his ass.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
...why does he have a fly over his ass?

Seriously, though, IA. It's the pose (and the fact that that appears to be a feature of the figure, i.e. you can make Black Widow strip for you after fighting!) that makes it distasteful.

To be fair, that is how she wore her catsuit in the Avengers. Blame the costume department, not the toy.

Eh. http://cdn03.cdn.pinkisthenewblog.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/050312-the-avengers-scarlet-black-widow-lead-3-340.jpg

Not to the same extent.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
The zipper zips. If you find official shots of the toy, it's not that low either. I don't know where that pose came from, but it is not the actual Hoy Toys/Marvel people.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I know. The AYRT did not realize that, and that's what they were objecting to. I thought your argument was that's how far down the thing unzipped in the movie anyway, and so I gave you a picture.

BUT--her breasts really shouldn't be in permanent cleavage.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if I was in leather -or whatever it is - majority of the time, I'd unzip as much as I could to get some air.

I have some 6" Lupin III figures with actual cloth clothing and I can take all of their clothes off and pose them in a sexy poses if I want to

I think a Tony Stark in the midst of dropping trou would be perfectly within character.

...

Oh shoot, now I really want one of those ridiculously fanservicey, Elvgrin-girl-esque statuettes of Tony Stark having some kind of adorable and sexy trouble getting his armor on.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
As a matter of fact...
