If there's one thing I want to GO AWAY FOREVER it's this "look at those heterosexuals doing heterosexual things totally heterosexually, nothing gay here, tee hee" stuff. I can't even put into words how much it bothers me.

This will probably sound wanky, but I think straight fangirls sinking their teeth into the queerbait is almost as bad as queerbaiting itself. Just stop.

That doesn't sound wanky. It's spot on, because that's exactly what makes queerbaiting a thing that keeps showing up.

I agree. And I'm following a couple of generally okay girls who say shit like this for CANONLY STRAIGHT MALE CHARACTERS BONDING. #homogays #have gay sex already #gays

/sighs st Assassin's Creed fandom
/sighs at Supernatural fandom

AC fandom was so weird. I remember all of the Altair/Malak shipping and I was like "wuuh? I barely remember that guy". He was just generic assassin fellow, and yet there was SO

MUCH

SHIPPING

I find those pairings the weirdest. Their being popular is so counter-intuitive. I ship some rare pairs too and crackpairings too, but I don't really expect them to become huge phenomenons. I mean, do people in Teen Wolf fandom ship anything but Sterek? I don't even know if there are other characters! Well, I do know there's some canonically gay guy. But silly me, shipping straight guys >>>>>>> shipping actually gay guys.

same anon

Did I actually write "phenomenons"?! Oh god. Sorry.

Forget shipping, they don't even talk about anything that's not Sterek. It took me months to realize that they weren't even the main character(s).

While I will defend Altair/Malik to the end, I get why people could have overlooked him (until the end where he is fairly important?). I have a soft spot for side characters who snark at the arrogant main characters, so I actually shipped them quite a bit. But like everywhere else, there is a lot of badfic and a few awesome fics. But I have to say: I'm not active in tumblr fandoms, but from what I've seen in other places, the AC fandom is actually a fairly open minded place?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I hear you man, I shipped Altair and Malik before I even looked at the fandoms.
then I stopped because the fanon characterization rubbed me the wrong way.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I feel you - There have been so many fanon traits I was very uncomfortable with...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes its only icky fangirls. Nobody ever exploits cf querrbaiting in anime and calls them harass lesbians even though they're straight.
