Depends, a weekish I guess? Depends on the medium though.

I usually only tag things in tumblr. as spoilers for like 48ish hours, but I always tag it with the show so? When it comes to my blogging I just mention early on that I am talking about something current. And when it comes to friends/discussion I usually ask them first if the saw the episode with something that can't spoil them for anything major, like a comment or a hint about something.

I am pretty much one of those people who blame themselves if they manage to get spoilers though, because as someone mentioned in an article I read not long ago: You can't hide from sports results, so why should spoilers for tv-shows be treated any different? Just stay away from the internet until you watch the new episode and you avoid getting spoiled.

that didn't clear it up at all did it? Sorry, I tried...

I'm in the same boat with spoilers, if I don't want them I try to avoid the internet but I understand some people don't want to do that. I know some people are the same with sports scores, they get super bummed out if people spoil it for them.

True, but then you avoid the news papers to not get to know the sports score? Just like you avoid tumblr. or LJ or any similar fandom site to avoid spoilers.

Not saying I haven't gotten annoyed for getting spoiled for things, Supernatural comes to mind, but that is more because people don't know how to tag stuff with the damn fandom. But for shows I am currently watching I just avoid places like tumblr. before I manage to watch the newest episode.

If I got told something spoilery directly to me without a warning it is a different kind of animal and I find it pretty dickish. I never spoil people in real life (or online) on purpose, it is easy to ask someone if they are caught up before asking about a major plot point, I even ask my friends if they are planning to maybe watch a show in the future before I spoil them.

wow that got long, apparently I got a lot of feelings about this

Yes. There is a big difference between, "I'm going to reveal the secrets to you, because I'm a dick," and "I'm going to have a conversation about this in appropriately tagged social media after it's broadcast/published."

Yeah, I too am very careful with spoilers. Not even usually for me, although I do like not knowing major spoilers, but for the sake of other people. Like, I was kind of pissed at Community fandom the other day because untagged gifs and reviews were going up minutes after the episode aired. Like, they didn't even tag them 'community' they just shoved them up. Which is rude.

I agree. The rest of the world is not obligated to put an embargo on their conversations to accommodate my time-shifted media lifestyle.
