Re: Of flower eggs and rosewater: Pictures of the settings of a Malay wedding

Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing the photos and explanations here. The stuff you can pick up from lurking in F!S GC haha. Very different from any wedding I've been to.

Also, gamelan! I remember being mesmerized when we listened to/watched some in my Music Around the World class. My teacher said she actually played some when she was at school in New York City, which was cool.

True, sometimes the things you can find here are not the kinds of things you would usually find in a fandom forum. :) This is actually the second time I've done a photo-post like this, the first one being on nearby Mount Bromo in Indonesia.

Ah, the Gamelan was not ours!; it belonged to a music troupe that we always hire whenever somebody in the family plans to be wedded. Sometimes, if the wedding takes place in a holiday -like my cousin's a few years back- we would work together with the troupe and would perform traditional dances, like the tarian zapin, tarian piring, and dikir barat for the bride and groom and guests. However, this wedding took place in the weekend, so no dances. :(
