Yeah, it's especially annoying in series where you can't just watch it with your brain turned off and expect to get everything (Gundam Wing and Twelve Kingdoms to name a couple). I tried to watch GW subbed the first time because my friends were all die-hard sub people, and I couldn't stand it because I couldn't follow half of what was happening. Watched it dubbed recently and now I'm in love with it and sad that the fandom's pretty much dead.

I tried to watch Madoka Magica in the subs, and I had to start over around episode 4 (I think it was? It was a while ago...) because I was just not. getting. it. When I watched it again as a dub, though, all of a sudden everything made sense, so yeah, I feel ya. :)
