There are a few dubs I like... Cowboy Bebop, Haruhi, but for the most part I would rather watch the sub, it's just my personal preference

Also there are plenty of American female VAs who do the high pitched squeaky voices (Mikuru sounds annoying in the dub and the original Japanese of Haruhi, that's just... the character's voice) and there are plenty of Japanese female VAs who do normal voices, it just depends on the particular character they are voicing and what anime you're watching. If it's a high school comedy, or some moe anime, there are going to be squeaky voices.
