Yeah, it showcased wonderfully the guy's arrogance and egomania that even Adolf faded into the background compared to him. You know you have a real villain when he overshadows even the Nazis.

he didn't overshadow them. he was mostly a plot device that had to be punched at the end so the movie could have a climax.

there was 0 threat from him. The tension in the movie came from whether you care about Steve and if he got the things he wanted at the end, but at no point was Red Skull believably threatening to anyone else.
