Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was about Eddie and Roger. The old school cartoon characters were just added for local color and actually acted like they did early on in their cartoon careers. I suspect the OP is thinking of the "calmer" versions of the characters who came about in the 1950s. Roger Rabbig was set in the late 1940s and featured the older versions of the famous characters. Yeah, Donald, Bugs, etc. were jackasses in their earlier cartoons.
