NGL, I love a great dub. But I have crazy exacting standards for keeping me immersed that most dubs cannot meet—Cowboy Bebop met it, few others have.

Subs are not necessarily better, but they're a lot less likely to throw me out of the show with the choice of voice actor or, worse yet, bizarre intonation. Even if a Japanese voice actor is bad, I'm not good enough with Japanese to parse it that way most of the time. It'll just come across as "this is how that character speaks" rather than "OH GOD WHAT IT'S THE JAPANESE BRIAN BLESSED CANNOT STOP LAUGHING WHYYYYYY".

I will readily admit, though, that Voice Actor Japanese and Actual People Speaking Japanese don't sound much alike. And there are some VAs in both languages that, hell or high water, I will listen to them over the alternative. (Hell, there are some actors I will hunt down doing COMMERCIALS. BECAUSE WHY NOT.)
