Except that is a non-sequitur. It wasn't the meetup that made the people the way they are...

Not really. It was the fandom meetup that created the current situation for the OP, though not the people involved.

It's sort of the same premise as "I don't want to find out too much about this author/artist I like because they will inevitably turn out to be a horrible person".

No. But the people at the meetup were people in fandom, and any fandom meetup is going to be comprised similarly of people in fandom.

ayrt Doesn't mean this person's experience is necessarily going to be replicated though, just because it's fandom people.
