Jasmine is just way more likely to take charge regarding her boyfriend. she speaks up to him, whereas we're never shown Ariel doing that to Eric. I guess dudes like that?

I wouldn't call her 'bitchy', but I recently wound up rewatching Snow White at the childcare center where I work and was surprised at how much she ticked me off.

I cut Snow White some slack because she's a thirteen year old girl who was nearly murdered and chased off into the woods.

I can't stand Snow White either. It's partly the voice, and partly the stupid, which I can't write off as trauma.

Partially the voice (especially when she sings- ouch), partially how patronizing she is towards the dwarves. She kind of goes "oh, you're not little children, you're little men!" in one scene and then proceeds to treat them like small children for most of her subsequent scenes with them.

This. Those are grown-ass men that you're bossing around there. They lived on their own just fine for years before you came here, and you are a guest in their house, treat them with some respect.

I think it would be awesome to see Snow White remade now and not in live action or computerized though I know that's just hopefull thinking.

Yeah, it's the voice for me. Too squeaky. Too nasal. That vibrato. That and I keep getting distracted by her complete lack of boob. It's one thing when she's super young and running off into the forest, but when some dude is riding off with her on his horse to make sexy time, a little development, please, keep it legal.

But I get that it was the thirties and the first Disney animated feature and how far to go was still being worked out.

Oh, I'm not the original comenter. I was just using their term, though I don't agree any princess is actually bitchy.

Ariel doesn't oppose her love interest, though, and only shows anger/fear when a terrible thing has been done to her. Jasmine just seems more aware of what she is and isn't willing to put up with regarding herself. there IS a culture of expecting women to be more passive regarding that.
