Re: Non-fandom Secrets

Whenever anyone catches me talking to myself I tell them I'm just thinking out loud. Technically, I am. However, I do this by personifying some idea or trait that I can talk to. It makes it easier to figure out solutions to problems that way. Of course, if I actually said this they would think I believed these were real people I was talking to, or hallucinations, or something like that. No, it's just me. I am just talking to myself. I just made an imaginary representation of something. It's really no big deal but apparently it is?

Sometimes when I talk to myself, I use "we" - "We're not going to do that right now, we're going to be productive," for example. After I noticed myself doing it I rationalized that I'm including the me that's speaking and the me that's listening. ...but yes, essentially like Gollum.

I've never done that. I always use ‘I’. But at least I'm not the only one with quirks.

I could also see someone using ‘we’ if they were of two minds on a subject; such as half of them wants one thing while the other half wants another.

By the way, if you're Gollum you're the cutest Gollum I've met.

Teehee! Thank you C:

And yeah, now that I think about it, it seems like I mainly use we when I'm trying to get myself back on track, to stop doing something (like singing obnoxiously) or start doing something else. So that "two minds" makes sense to me too.

I tend to talk to myself with we as well "We can do this!" but also with "you" "Pull yourself together and get working!" Thankfully so far no one heard me xD

As long as the conversation doesn't get to long you should be safe from people thinking you're weird.

Otherwise they'll start asking things like, "Who are you talking to?", "Do you need to tell me something?", and "Are you okay?"

But yeah, it's really good to know I'm not the only one who has quirks.

I do this too, and sometimes I refer to myself in the third person ("Come on, nonnie! You're being silly about this, pull yourself together! Now, do you want to go make cupcakes? Yes. Yes I do. Then let's go make cupcakes.") but I usually only do that when I'm sad and don't have anyone to talk to, or have a really big thing I don't want to do looming. It would probably sound bad to an outsider, but I do know that there is only one of me and it's the same me giving the pep talks and bad advice (well, bad for my teeth, at least) and receiving it.

I do this a lot with characters (mine and others'). I conduct "interviews" of a sort under my breath, and it's actually become a handy character-building device. But I move my mouth and "listen" to the answers they "give me", and sometimes nod and stuff, so I look like I'm hallucinating.

I'M NOT CRAZY, RANDOM PERSON WHO JUST SIDE-EYED ME! I'M ONLY A WRITER!

I do the exact same thing when writing too. Huh. I wonder if it's just something that works for me.
