da

lol I hope you're not seriously arguing that there isn't a cultural meme of 'the more innocent the better' and 'men love virgins' and shit like that. Aka. Infantilising.

Is that actually what infantilizing means though? Sorry if it's not, I could be wrong, but the word makes me think of...you know...actual infants

which is a whole 'nother ballpark

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what it means. it obviously doesn't literally mean 'men want to fuck infants.'

Stuff like the song "Santa Baby" is an excellent example. They actually make fun if infantilisation of women's sexuality in the show Community. Where Annie sings in the episode "Regional Holiday Music".

This video is a great example as well:

That's probably the weirdest interpretation of "Santa Baby" I've heard.

Because frankly, I can't imagine my nieces wanting a platinum mine, or dropping a double entendre into every verse.

I agree with a general trend toward infantalization--particularly in Christmas music--but Santa Baby isn't the best example. At least not in its original recording.

Which was by Eartha Kitt, least infantalized woman to ever live who wasn't Bea Arthur.

(Changed link--not sure why those folks edited themselves into the video.)

Hint: If you're going to question the accuracy of a word definition and you're not actually sure you're correct, take five whole seconds to Google it before replying.

lol condescending much?

Seriously, is it any skin off your nose if I ask people a question?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
It is pretty annoying, and technically is skin off my nose since I'm the one you asked and who answered. Why not just google? you come off as pretty lazy.

You didn't have to answer. Why make a big stink about it? You come off as pretty touchy.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
at least I'm not the idiot who thought infantilising had to do with actual infants?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people don't speak English as a first language, and those who do would have had a phase of picking up new vocabulary. Except you, I guess, since you were apparently born with a dictionary in your brain.

Or maybe some people just haven't heard every academic term out there for every social phenomenon ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything's new to everybody at some point. No shame in that.
