My favourite LJ community was ruined by SJWs, so I feel you. Worst of all it was a snarking community. Suddenly we couldn't wish death on someone who's pissed us off, or call them crazy... in a snark post! Everytime I see someone suggest using "step on legos" as a substitute I want to strangle a kitten.

(Of course I don't want to literally strangle a kitten, but figures of speech and exaggeration are a mystery to these people.)

Fucking SJWs.

Fanfic rants on LJ, by any chance?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
DA

...I thought that comm suffered the most because theo is a giant douche. Same thing?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
... tell me more? I don't hang out there much, but they've seemed pretty cool when I have read. I'm sad to hear that's not true

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. "You are not allowed to criticise me because I'm disabled and have a massive chip on my shoulder about it". Sorry dude, no free passes to douchbaggery.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Brps, actually. When an admin starts to agree with Rileigh you know it's a lost cause.

sa

Apparently their name is Riley. I'm not ashamed I didn't know that.

I have never followed Riley before that joke of a video game project, but that sounds like a nightmare board.

Speaking of which... OH NO! SHE'S HOLDING HER TUMBLR POSTS HOSTAGE! WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

Demanding appreciation, hah!

Sounds like sf_drama

It reminded me of ontd_political

ontd_p still uses a lot of death threats though... and sentiments of the "go fuck yourself" variety.

ontd_p uses death threats??? That honestly surprises me. The latter though I can definitely see.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
ontd_p?
visp: (Default)

[personal profile] visp 2013-02-13 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
But... 'step on legos' sounds like such a better thing to wish on someone - it's real and could happen to them and hurts like balls.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind people using it, I mind people going OH BUT YOU REALLY SHOULDN'T SAY THAT USE THIS CURSE INSTEAD IT'S PC AND CLEVER. Like if you use it and other people pick it up that's no skin off my nose.

[personal profile] visp 2013-02-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would probably ruin it for me. "You can't tell me what to say! I do what I want!"

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Just remind them that it's an ableist phrase because some people can't walk.

You know, I loathe the SJers and all, but I love "step on a lego".
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

I think this all the time!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Everytime I see someone suggest using "step on legos" as a substitute I want to strangle a kitten.

If this is a reference to the comm you meant, what really drives me nuts is that they pick when it IS okay to sarcastically wish bad things on people. Or who is allowed to.

SA

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
... nevermind, read the other comments, it wasn't brps. So step on legos is actually a thing?

Re: SA

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

They did adapt it from sf_d afaik if that's the comm you were referring to. Now I really wonder where it originated...

It wasn't a bad phrase to start with, but it's overused to the point where it's not even an amusing mental image anymore. Also, it's not very creative. There are loads of other ways to wish harm on others in a non-ism sort of way, and in my opinion, simply relying on the old Lego standby is just lazy. Not that I've got any room to talk when it comes to laziness, but still. Anyway, my personal favorite -ism-free wish of bodily harm is thus: "I hope she/he/they get(s) mauled by a pack of wild hamsters." If the person or persons in question are known to be allergic to hamsters, six-year-old children on sugar highs may be substituted. And if I'm feeling particularly full of spite and hatred, I may add that the subject(s) should be doused in lemon juice and salt immediately after the hamsters and/or children disperse.
