Okay, Rule Numero Uno of Who fandom: no matter what your opinion is, no matter how outrageous or rare or I-should-bottle-this you think it is, there is always someone out there who shares it.

Seriously, in this fandom, bottling up your opinions is an exercise in pointlessness that will only result in making you grouchy because no one will ever hold it against you. They're too distracted by how every single other fan around them thinks at least one thing they utterly adore about the show is total shit, and one thing they absolutely hate about the show is the greatest thing to hit the small screen in the history of the human race. Yes, every single one. Trust me.

Oh wait, actually, maybe hating the Brigadier is the one exception to the rule. And even then I'm sure there must one person somewhere on the planet who hates him.

This times, oh, a skabajillion.

While this is true it's also true that sometimes expressing an opinion, any opinion in Who fandom can start a fight that quickly will get personal. Sometimes I just don't express my opinions in Who fandom just to avoid a battle.

It's not that I dislike discussion and debate, I am all for that, but it can sometimes be hard to find fans who are willing to discuss Who in any sort of a rational matter.

So if something seems like a popular opinion in a certain forum (not all of fandom, just where I am looking at the moment) then I will keep my mouth shut if my opinion is not in the majority.

So maybe OP feels the way I do? Just a thought.

Hmm, in my experience, it seems like Who fans fly off the handle over fan behavior they don't like more than fan opinions they don't agree with. Like, they'll start wanking about shipping or character-bashing, but usually don't care about someone liking/hating a particular character/episode/storyline.

I've had different experiences, some Who fans are lovely and reasonable, but some really take it too personally if you don't like what they love.

What constitutes "character-bashing" is a big one though, particularly when it comes to companions. I've seen it get personal when someone did not agree with a companions actions, and while I get that it hurts when someone is criticizing a character you love, I don't find that to be an excuse to start bashing a REAL PERSON in an argument.

Like as much as I love Who, Who is not more important then a real person's feelings.

You have clearly never stated in a public forum that you hate Steven Moffat because of his stupid, repetitive, badly-written, sexist plots.

I have never BEEN so completely dogpiled by uninformed, ridiculous fantwits.

Well, they were probably n00bs. Most well-established fans who like Moffat will shrug and go "sure fine whatever," take one step to their right, and then bitch and moan about RTD to stir up shitfits from other n00bs.

Yeah, I think it's generally understood in Doctor Who fandom that everyone cordially despises each other's opinions and that, although it may be bluntly or downright rudely expressed, it's not really personal.

(Apparently there are people who hate Ace for Christ's sake. How can anyone hate Ace?! And there I go proving your point.)

Seriously?? That cannot be true. I just... simply refuse to believe it.
