How Long Do You Think Your Favorite Shows Will Last?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Make some predictions about how long you think your favorite shows will last before they go off the air! And also, how long do you want them to last, keeping in mind this is not a dream world where the actors don't age?

I predict another couple years in The Mentalist before it ends. It's obvious they're building up towards something with Red John -- and this creepy asshole that Lisbon's had to deal with just might be a recurring, VISIBLE villain that I'd like to see more often.

I think Castle will definitely get renewed for next season and probably for a seventh after that -- though, even I can admit that whether it SHOULD go two more seasons is questionable.

I think Archer can keep it up for a long time. Not as long-running as the Simpsons or South Park, but maybe... hm... three, four more seasons? It's hard to tell.

I'm sure How I Met Your Mother will end after this season, if only because we're scraping perilously close to "knock her up on the first date" in terms of the timeline, even if we round Ted's kids' ages down to the lowest numbers possible for their appearance.

How I Met Your Mother is already renewed for a ninth and final season.

Well fuck. Do you know if Ted's meeting the mother in season 8, or is he still not meeting her until the very end of the show?

Well, Supernatural just got renewed for season 9, so at least another year, and both Jared & Jensen have agree to s9+s10, so maybe we'll also have a s10.
I don't want to think of it going much longer than that, though.

My favourite shows are already over, yet I can't help but wonder this about Elementary and Sherlock - the ones I currently watch. The level of obsession with Sherlock in fandom is so high that I'm afraid to think of what will happen if the series is closed. Thousands of mad fangirls, screenwriters receiving death threats... ugh. I guess Sherlock's popularity must subside a little for it to be properly closed. Which will be hard, considering the frequency with which the episodes are produced (that is, the series technically won't be able to have more than, say, fifteen-twenty episodes if they work at their current rate. On the other hand, I hope that once the leading actors are old enough, all the insanity will gradually lessen).

Elementary? They bake their series so fast that I don't think they'll be able to keep up for long. Luckily, this one in all probability won't have problems with having a good, proper ending.

Probably five seasons, since that was how long most of the shows that got cancelled did. Fringe, Merlin, Leverage, Being Human, except for The Hour that only lasted 2 seasons. Ouch! Now I'm wondering if I'll have any shows left by the end of the year.

If Bomb Girls continues to follow a rough 1 year = 1 season format like their first season, season 5 will take us to 1945. They might not last that long, though, idk it's the first Canadian series I've watched that is still airing so I don't know how cancel-happy they are. (Murdoch Mysteries doesn't count. They should have quit while they were ahead, tbh.)

A++++++

Incidentally, I really want some sci-fi show to have an episode where the characters are in Britain a couple decades in the future, and they pass someone reading an entertainment magazine reading "*INSERT RL BRITISH CHILD ACTOR HERE* HAS SIGNED ON TO PLAY THE 18th DOCTOR" or something.

Hmmm...

Most of my favorite shows have already ended.

I think Justified easily has another two seasons. That sounds pretty ideal to me, because I'm still enjoying the show but it doesn't feel as centered as it used to.

As for Person of Interest, IDK. Maybe five or six seasons total? I'm not sure what the show-runners have in mind but with the formula of the show being what it is, it could go on for a long, long time.

Archer...another four plus, I think. And as long as it stays funny I don't want it to end.

Hawaii 5-0 will probably last at least three or four more seasons. We'll see how I feel about that when we get there, but for now it's a show I have fun watching and don't want to end anytime soon.

I used to adore White Collar but if it lasts more than another two seasons I'm gone. It's grown a bit stale imo.

Oh! And Sherlock. Uh...again, maybe another two or three seasons. I can't imagine them doing more than that because I think Benedict and Martin will eventually want to move on.

If Person of Interest were on Fox, it would never have gotten a second season.

There was a show once that was my dream come true. It was like they reached into my head and pulled out everything in life that would make me happy and put it on screen. It lasted for nineteen episodes.

I will never love like that again.

I love futurama and I'm glad it came back

but the last 2 seasons have not been as fun so I hope it ends after 2013...it's charm is fading and I don't want it to go the way of the simpsons with sooo many epiodes

scared it will happen tho.

Predicting two more seasons for Sherlock and Grimm. I'd like them to go through all of the Sherlock Holmes stories, but at this speed it would take such a long time that it's not realistic. For Grimm two more seasons would be optimal, so that it wouldn't get completely stale.

For Arrow I'd say four more seasons, unless of course CW can't come up any other well rated shows and we'll have another Smallville in our hands. I don't want it to go on forever, so personally three seasons would be enough for me.
