(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:35 am (UTC)(link)I mean, yeah, that's fucked. But I also see people derailing discussions of rape (or IPV) with "what about the men?!" so often that I can also see how it gets exhausting to try to talk about a gendered phenomenon and constantly have to get derailed and cater to people who are worried about dudez.
Not that you can't worry about dudes, and ANY form of rape/IPV is horrible and yes it happens to men and so on, but it can be super difficult to navigate that without seeming to either ignore dudes entirely or feel like you're constantly catering to the "what about the men?" crowd and thus being derailed and forced to talk about men when you're trying to protect women, which is sort of putting them at the spotlight of a feminist conversation, which is SO ANNOYING.
That was so rambling. I hope it was coherent. D:

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)It makes my blood boil whenever men being rape victims is brought up, they start slinging around these fucking numbers and statistics to "prove" that rape is a women's issue, instead of addressing the issue of rape itself.
Way to be completely dismissive of victims, SJWa. No wonder these men end up MRAs because that's the only space they can share and support each other.
SJWs really need to do their research on the subject before they open their mouths and rehash inaccurate statistics. There is little support out there for male rape victims, just one I've found in the UK so far. This is criminal, and it is criminal for the intersectionality fail on the behalf of feminists in not properly educating themselves on the subject. They don't have to support a movement for male rape victims, but at least be fucking educated on the concern instead of chanting "only 1 out of 10 rape victims are male" as if to diminish male rape victims as being only the ten percent.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 02:34 am (UTC)(link)Male rape victims might end up with the MRAs because they are the only ones who have active safe spaces where they can discuss these things. I've seen this- it's called research.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)I think male rape victims are smart enough to look for succor where it exists, which is not with men who hate it when women look for solutions to rape.

When, guys, no, this is really fucking important, because do you know how many lesbians experience abuse or sexual violence from other women. One third. One third. The look on my FACE when I found this out. (Meanwhile, do you know what comes up when you try to search for resources for dealing with female-on-female sexual assault? More lesbian rape porn than useful results. But go ahead and cry crystal tears when a post with a single passing reference to rape doesn't come with eighteen trigger warnings.)
And the reason this is important for more than one-third of a single-digit percent of the population (while we're ranking by frequency :p) is this: if the rate of sexual violence and abuse within the lesbian community is just as high as it is among straights, then maybe the problem is not that men in particular are trained to be evil rapists, it's shitty messages of entitlement towards women's bodies and social license for those who've internalized such messages to operate. That's useful information, for fuck's sake.
But nope, you go, SJWs, shutting that entire line of discussion down because you think it's all MRAs drawing false equivalences to claim that women are just as bad as men.

You could not have written that any better. Thank you so much. This was just "it's shitty messages of entitlement towards women's bodies and social license for those who've internalized such messages to operate. " so perfect. So perfect.
You are a beautiful person.
