It was weak and emotionally manipulative. The whole purpose of the episode was to get people to cry at the end. I did and then got pissed off because I didn't feel the episode had earned my emotional response at all. But I don't really hate it. Wouldn't watch it again, though.

Yep all this. I occasionally watch it again when I have my dvds in, but it feels awfully manipulative to me. I was amazed when SO MANY people were like 'THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE OF ALL TIME." It just did nothing for me.

Though I loved the quote the Doctor said at the end: I wouldn't say that. The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant."

Hahaha, I feel that same way about most of 10's final season... apparently new Who enjoys that sort of thing...
