i guess i just don't understand why anybody or anything needs representation in fandom. i like a lot of variety of things, none of which has to do with being white or female or living in america or being in my twenties. i can relate to any sentient being who has human qualities...black, white, gay, android, whatever. i'm into a lot of stuff where the fanbases are primarily my opposite gender or primarily younger than i am...i guess i just don't know why it matters. i just like what i like, and i participate in any way i can.

but i'm not you...so who knows..*shrug*

it matters because when everyone is expected to be able to identify with cis straight white males it sets them up as the normal state of being and makes everyone else into an 'other' with limited options and opportunities to have real personality or agency

i guess i just don't see it that way. ideas of 'normal' or 'other' don't have any meaning for me, they never have. i find it hard to even understand those concepts, let alone identify them.

Eh, I'm like this too. I honestly have an easier time identifying with a character that's different from me than one that looks exactly like me. The people replying to you are asshole who can't fathom why you'd be able to feel empathy with someone who is not a carbon copy of you.
