I never got the feeling that it was a vanity thing with Cersei so much as it was part of how completely messed up her sense of her own identity is.

To me one of the saddest things about Cersei's story is that she never gets any real feedback from anything she does. Her whole life she's been ignored or overruled or misconstrued. So she does more and more outrageous and savage things and still can't get a clear reaction. She hasn't a clue how to get coherent responses from anyone around her. She's always just gotten abuse, contempt, or fear that had everything to do with the positions men had put her into and very little to do with anything she generated herself.

Jamie's the one thing she's been sure is hers, and their relationship - messed up though it is - was the only egalitarian one she'd ever had.

I feel very sorry for Cersei. I agree with the secret though. That ship is scuttled.

I don't know, she's awfully quick to replace him with Lancel. And I recall a lot of her desperation from Jaime came from how alike he was to her. I think Cersei loved herself most, and Jaime came very close for a long time.

Well, I think Cersei has her children too.

But generally IA that Jaime is the one thing she's been sure was hers. Which is why the fact that he didn't come to rescue her and that he's kind of pushing away and defining himself separately from her now is a big deal.
