All of those conversations just reminded me of the quote from Lewis Black's stand up that said, "If it weren't for my horse I wouldn't have spent those two years in college."

That quote always annoys me so much. :( The person who said it was clearly a member of 4H--they regularly hand out scholarships for livestock and horsemanship and things.

The whole joke is based on Lewis Black being fucking stupid about something, as opposed to some jokes of his which are really quite clever. It...bothers me.

Honestly? As someone from the city I've never heard of that. And most people haven't? So it sounds funny to people not in the know.

But also, I always heard the quote as being resentful. Like, "Fuck, if I didn't have this stupid horse I wouldn't have had to go to college." Which... makes a person wonder how that kind of situation could come about.

Though, I mean, you're allowed not to find it funny. I always thought the whole point of the joke was that he was ignorant ad couldn't figure it out. Which, you know, bothered him greatly. So... different tastes I guess.

And I interpreted that line as if the person was doing their horse a favor or something. Like, man, I can't let down my horse, she's counting on me to get that English degree. :(

It sounds like because of the horse the person speaking had no choice but to complete a year of college. ...I guess it could mean that they only got to do one year, but at least they got that one year?
