oh, question! question!

is that stereotype (?) that women dig men with cool cars true?

as in, a boring-looking car would be a deal-breaker?

because I always found that weird. I mean, as long as the thing doesn't look like it's about to fall apart or something, is that really so important?

what am I missing here?

I'm sure some people, probably of the insanely rich and/or insanely status-obsessed variety, feel that way... but I've never met anyone who does.

The closest I can think of is some women who wouldn't date a guy who doesn't have a car at all because they don't want to taxi him around... but even that's not common, I don't think.

But the places I've lived have tended not to place a lot of value on social status compared to what I've heard of other places, so maybe I'm wrong.

ayrt

oh, thanks for your perspective

tbh I haven't really heard of it or seen it irl either, beyond the fact that it is nice to be given rides so easily if you want to go someplace

I ask because I've seen this in TV and movies, like

"oh, he had a car, so instant boning *wink wink*"

and I was all like "oh, so, women think cars are sexy?? I must investigate this"

I certainly don't give a crap what kind of car a guy drives, as long as it does what he needs it to do. I think that sentiment mostly only occurs among those who can afford cool cars and teenagers who have no appreciation for what shit costs and very unrealistic expectations about their likely future earning potential vis-a-vis the cost of a really cool car.

Uh, maybe some girls like that do exist but I certainly wouldn't count them in the majority.

On a personal level, what I care more about is the safety of the vehicle and their driving skills. It wouldn't be a deal-breaker but I may refuse to get in the car with them. However, if I refuse to let my boyfriend drive me I can see that becoming a complication very quickly. Um... I also think a car can also tell you something about the person that bought it, but that's not really a negative. At least, not in most cases.

I like cool cars but I wouldn't base a relationship or even a one-night stand on that.

Also my standards for what constitutes a cool car are really low. Like "Oh man this car is PURPLE it's the greatest car in the world." or "Shit this car has an interior light that actually WORKS Lap of luxury, right here."
