Do any of you Doctor Who fans remember back in 2005...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)I was cautiously optimistic but I never in a million years would have imagined the show getting so popular. I wasn't sure Eccleston looked Doctorish (as oppososed to my immediate "yes!" reaction to McGann) but I'd seen Billie Piper in a drama previously so I was more forgiving of her cheesy pop career than some. There was a billboard up on my way to work and I thought that was exciting as hell; it seemed that the BBC were really trying to push the show when in the past there'd been a sense of immense embarrassment about it, I took that to be a good sign. I saw my first clip on the Jonathan Ross show (I think), it was the bit from 'Rose' where the Doctor tells her he could feel the Earth turning, and I felt slightly disappointed by it and I still cannot put my finger on why I, to this day, don't like that scene. So I was a bit conflicted, but nothing in the world would've stopped me from watching it.
I watched the first ep on broadcast and hearing the theme, remixed but still *right* put the biggest daftest smile on my face. I came away feeling that it wasn't really the Doctor Who I remembered but it definitely was still Doctor Who and RTD hadn't fucked it over and Christopher Eccleston *was* the Doctor and I was alreday looking forward to the next episode.
Went to work on Monday and no one else had seen it and they were all still taking the piss out of my enthusiasm, but I've always gathered that the general feeling among non-fans who actually watched was positive.
