lol. I called it DowntoWn Abbey when I first heard of it too.

On a related note, after Downton won the National Television Award over Doctor Who, Merlin and Sherlock the DowntoWn Abbey tag was pretty hilarious because a lot of angry fans from the other fandoms also thought the show was called DowntoWn Abbey.

Yeah, it's actually kind of sad how long it took me to realize that when the characters on the show were saying "Downton," they weren't just dropping the "w" because of their British accents. No, seriously, I actually noticed how they were pronouncing it and thought to myself "oh that's a little weird, where did 'w' go...?"

Well, before your secret, I thought it was DowntoWn too. lol

You and everyone else, anon. I work in a public library, and when people started requesting this on DVD they'd fill out the forms wrong. Then when we did buy it, my coworkers didn't know enough to look it up in the OPAC and get it to the people with the correct name.

You and most of tumblr's Sherlock fandom, OP.

I know what it's called and still typo it as Downtown sometimes. So whenever I type out Downton I have to think really hard about it. Apparently on a subconscious level DowntoWn makes more sense to my brain.

On the flip side, I remember writing a lot of essays in my first year at uni when I did a paper that involved a lot about peasant holdings, where I kept writing tennants instead of tenants because at the time I'd recently seen Casanova so was a bit obsessed with David Tennant.

I still call it DowntoWn Abbey sometimes, just because it's more what I'm used to.

loL I thought that too. I once said to my boyfriend "let's watch Downtown Abbey!"

He corrected me, and I said "I know, I was just being sillyyyyY~"

I thought that for the longest time, then my mom started watching it; now I've seen the opening enough times to know better. (I think she calls it Downtown Abbey too, so yeah, you definitely aren't alone.)

I only learned this during the Sherlock wank last month. And that's after watching a gazillion Downton Abbey gifs during last year's March Madness.

I did that too XD And by the looks of it, a lot of people did as well!

I think this secret and all the replies are kind of funny. Everyone on the show says 'Downton'. It's...not the same word. Doesn't *sound* the same. I just...don't get the confusion.
